One person was arrested after a large number of explosives were seized from his possession near Karamadai in the rural limits, police said on Thursday.

The seizure was made by 'Q' branch police during a vehicle check in the area, about 30 km from Coimbatore on Thursday morning.

Police stopped a 31-year-old man riding on a motorcycle and found 143 gelatin sticks and 100 electric detonators in a gunny bag tied behind the vehicle, they said.

Since there were no proper documents for the explosives, said to be taken to explode roadside rocks to lay telephone cable, the man was taken into custody, they added.
