"During this tour I've learnt a lot about development and I am determined to bring in a positive change in my village," Kachar village sarpanch Abdul Gani said during an interaction at Udhampur-based Northern Command on Wednesday.

The tour named 'Sair-e-Watan', a national integration tour, under Operation Sadbhavana at Udhampur, was organised for sarpanches and panches from remote and backward areas of Khari Bowl of Ramban district to witness the economic developments and functioning of the panchayats.

Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, GoC-in-C, Northern Command, received the team of sarpanches and panches, who were taken to different villages of Amritsar and Jaipur.

There they got an insight into the progress being made by the panchayati raj institutions and their role in various development activities.

During their interaction with the GOC, sarpanches expressed their gratitude to the army for organising the tour.
