Faithfully yours

I am a prisoner of faith. And I want to say that faith stands for ‘fair attitude in thy thoughts.’ My faith is that faith is a thousand times more powerful than hope.

Whereas hope is based on certain favourable circumstances that generate it, faith is completely blind; and under its spell, one expects miracles could happen even in the most hopeless situations.

The other day, I got a message rubbishing my faith in faith. I was, the mail said, a person with feeble and irrational mind. But my point is that faith is an instrument of the brave and the visionary. Without it, no great achievement could have been achieved. Scientists may have scientific minds, but it is their faith that keeps them going for years in the hope of getting to say ‘Eureka’, one day. They spend frustrating days and nights for years in search of their eluding goal. Every failure strengthens their faith and gets them nearer their goal.

Only complete faith makes a complete man. The faithful are never miserable because even in misery, they see great hopes of salvation and freedom from their wants.

All great men had nothing but faith in their ability to surmount their difficulties and realise their dreams. A frail
Gandhi had no guns; he had only conviction to support him. And his faith in his ability to get India freedom had Himalayan strength. That is why I never feel shy of saying one must be a prisoner of faith. No other weapon can be as powerful. One who has hope and faith can have what one wills. Modifying Samuel Johnson a little bit, one can say faith itself is a species of happiness.
