The Hanumanganj police were tipped off this morning that a suspicious looking man at Hamidia Road was trying to pass off fake notes of Rs 500 to someone. Policemen in plain clothe surrounded the man standing in front of the main gate of Sabzi Mandi.

Noticing his activities to be suspicious, the cops moved in and apprehended the man and brought him to the police station for questioning.

He identified himself as Ajay (46), a resident of Sukhi Sevaniya area. He used to live in the slums near Bharat Talkies in the past. On frisking him, the police recovered 92 Rs 500 notes hidden in his clothing.

Ajay was booked under relevant sections and interrogated. He told the police that he used to buy fake currency from one Ramswaroop of Sohagpur. He informed that he had paid Rs 4,500 for these fake 92 notes.

He has been active in circulating fake currency for the past six months. Police noticed that all the notes in the culprit’s possession bore the same number and series pointing to the fact that he had photocopied all of them from just one genuine note.
