Fake currency worth Rs 21,860 recovered

THE POLICE arrested a man and recovered fake currency worth Rs 21,860 in denominations of Rs 100, 50 and 10 from his possession on Thursday evening. His two accomplices managed to flee.

THE POLICE arrested a man and recovered fake currency worth Rs 21,860 in denominations of Rs 100, 50 and 10 from his possession on Thursday evening. His two accomplices managed to flee.

Cops were engaged in checking of two-wheelers near Bhadau Chungi when they received information that a man had come to a ‘paan’ shop to carry out a deal of fake currency there. The police raided the shop and nabbed the man. The police recovered fake currency from the man’s pocket.

The man identified as Lal Bahadur, resident of Ghazipur district, gave information about his accomplices, who had already fled. He said he used to sell fake currency at half the price from a place in Bihar and later used to circulate them in several districts of Purvanchal. He had already circulated fake currency worth lakhs of rupees. Police are conducting raids to arrest more members of this gang.

Dalit woman raped
A Dalit woman was raped by her neighbour in Ghazipur district. Despite complaints by the victim, a case has yet not been registered. However, local residents are mounting pressure on police to lodge a case.
