He had surrendered in a Gurgaon court on Wednesday.

Singh was booked for allegedly generating a fake email ID in his neighbour's name to file a complaint against a school building coming up in the area.

The neighbour happened to be Rita Chowdhry, the mother of former Miss India Ekta Chowdhry.

Police officials claimed that Jappreet Singh is not the main accused. Instead, his father Sandeep Bhatia had created the ID and blamed his son for the crime. The laptop and mobile phone used to commit the crime have been recovered.

Police officials said Jappreet had 'confessed' that he had created the fake ID to defend his father.

Earlier, Sandeep had blamed his son for creating the email ID. He also claimed that as his son was a minor, legal action could not be taken against him.

In April, Rita had filed a complaint with the cyber crime cell against an unidentified person for creating a fake email ID in her name.

"The accused confessed to the crime and was freed on bail on Thursday," said inspector Jagdish Prasad, SHO, DLF City Phase 2 Police Station.

Chowdhry told Hindustan Times, "I knew that Jappreet was not a minor and was telling the police about it since day one. His father is the culprit."
