Arjun Rampal has joined the ranks of Bollywood heroes put out of action by on-set accidents. The others who have been in and out of hospital over the past few days are Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapur and Suniel Shetty.
Arjun tore a ligament practising for his finale act in Nach Baliye 4, doing a dance that involved aerial gymnastics. A recovering Arjun says, “It’s an old injury in my lower back and neck that has played up.”
Hrithik hurt himself again filming for Kites. After a knee injury doing a car stunt last October, he got glass shards in his arm at Filmistan Studio in Mumbai on Tuesday, while he was breaking glass with a rod.
Shah Rukh, who has already had back and knee operations, now needs surgery on his shoulder after a ligament tear filming Dulha Mil Gaya in December. The surgery has been delayed as he had to visit LA for My Name is Khan.
Shahid Kapur, who plays a street-smart guy in Kaminay, has hurt himself many times during the shoot, the worst of which was a neck injury.
Suniel was wounded badly on the sets of De Dhana Dhan. In an underwater scene, a sharp object pierced his chest. “When I came out of the water, I couldn’t move my left arm, couldn’t breathe,” he recalls. It turned out to be an internal injury of muscle and tissue, and the actor is on bed rest.
