Family members of two youths from Punjab languishing in jails in middle east today sought the Centre's intervention for their release.

Family members of 21-year-old Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Phagwara who is languishing in Dubai jail for the last one year for being involved in a brawl, today submitted a memorandum to Phagwara SDM for forwarding it to the Centre and state government, seeking their intervention for his release.

According to the youth's family, Rakesh, who used to work in Abu Dhabi as a carpenter employed by AL Hamid General Construction Company, had come to Dubai to meet one of his friends. There he got involved in a brawl with some persons over a petty issue following which he was arrested and jailed by Dubai Police.

Meanwhile in Fathegarh Sahib, parents of Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Dulwan village who was arrested by Turkey Police on July 15 while trying to crossover to Greece from Turkey, have sought the help of Centre for release of their son.

According to Sarabjit's mother Gurmeet Kaur, her son, who used to work as a auto electrician at Khamano before moving abroad, was cheated by a travel agent.

On seeing police there, the agent fled leaving them there after which he was arrested.
