A police chowki in Faridabad has the dubious distinction of being rich — with fake currency notes.
The fake notes have been sent to the chowki by a private bank and the police have started investing into the source of the fake currency notes.
"We received fake currency notes worth nearly Rs 26,000 from HDFC Bank, sector 16, Faridabad," said Sanjeev Kumar, incharge sector 16 police chowki.
The money was apparently deposited with the bank by some customers. A list of 22 such customers has also been sent to the police chowki.
"The bank wants the police to investigate the source of the fake notes," he said.
He also said that the fake notes and the list was received by the chowki a few days ago through mail.
"The fake notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations were detected by the bank over the last two months and the bank suspects that the fake currency notes were deposited by the 22 customers," Kumar said. Most of the names are of people living in Faridabad.
"We have started inquiry," Kumar said, adding, "We will question all such customers to ascertain the source of the fake currency notes."
