People took to the streets in Faridabad against the continued power crisis and blocked the busy Delhi-Surajkund road, raising slogans against prolonged load-shedding.
Water supply is the direct casualty of the ongoing power crisis in the city and has added to the woes of the residents. There were also reports of protesters blocking two busy roads in Palwal, also in protest against long power cuts.
The residents of Lakadpur, Shiv Durga Vihar, Dayalbagh, Charmwood and other colonies are among the worst-hit by frequent power cuts.
People from these places, mostly women, came out of their homes around 9.30 am with empty pitchers on their heads and blocked the Delhi-Surajkund road near Charmwood.
Police officers, including the SHO of Surajkund police station, tried to convince the protesters but in vain. The agitating protesters wanted that power officials be called to the spot.
The blockade caused severe traffic jams in Faridabad and Delhi, though the traffic cops diverted vehicles.
After about three hours, the blockade was lifted when the Faridabad Tehildar rushed to the spot and convinced the agitating the protesters that power and water supply will be restored.

But officials claimed the situation was not as bad. As against the per day demand of over 160 lakh units, the supply is around 120 lakh units.
"The short fall is over 20%", said Sanjeev Chopra, superintending engineer, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) adding, supply has been considerably reduced to the industry in Faridabad in the wake of the rising demand from domestic consumers.
" Without power and water, life has become hell in Faridabad," said Ramneek Prabakhar, general secretary of manufacturers association, Faridabad.
