Faridabad: Metro work yet to start

The residents of this satellite township may have to wait a little more before work on the Metro line actually begins. The authorities are yet to settle the issue of a change in alignment that was proposed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) recently.

Though a high-level meeting to discuss many issues related to the Metro line was held in Chandigarh on Wednesday, the alignment issue is yet to be finalised.

“In the meeting, it was decided that the issue of fresh alignment of the Metro line be taken up with the secretary of union surface transport ministry in which both representatives of Haryana government and DMRC will participate,” A Srinivasa, HUDA administrator, who had also joined Wednesday’s meeting at Chandigarh, told Hindustan Times on Thursday. However, when this meeting will take place is yet to be fixed.

The meeting, chaired by SS Dhillon, financial commissioner, Haryana government, decided that Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), Faridabad, should hand over about 10 sites at different places to DMRC in Faridabad for putting construction material and other related activities till the work on Metro line is completed.

“We have changed the alignment and now want the work to be started from the left side of NH 2 from Badarpur,” said a senior DMRC officer who accompanied E Sreedharan to Faridabad during his last visit.

“The new alignment will neither affect the NHAI work on widening of the national highway nor is it going to hamper our work, which we are expected to start from August-September,” the officer had said.

Earlier, the DMRC had proposed Metro alignment from Badarpur to Faridabad either through the middle of the highway or on one side of the highway.

The 13.8km-long Metro line to Faridabad will be elevated and will have nine stations including Sarai, NHPC Chowk.
