The police have set up a ‘safe house’ for adult couples who elope from home and need protection. The police have also warned parents that any threat to such couples will be countered with stern action.

“We have notified a secured accommodation in Police Lines in Sector 30 for such adult couples who want our shelter and protection,” Faridabad joint commissioner of police Anil Kumar Rao said.

Last year the Punjab and Haryana High Court had passed an order asking police to provide secure accommodation to adults couples who were harassed by their parents after eloping.

"There are a number of instances when the parents get kidnapping cases registered against young men their daughters elope with. In most such cases, the women were later found to have been married these men and both admit this in their statements,” Rao said.

“We have now reserved accommodation for such runaway couples,” he said, adding, “if the number of such couples increase, additional accommodation will be made available.”
