Faridabad villagers up the ante, seek better deal

The Supreme Court relief for Shahberi villagers has rekindled hope for farmers of Greater Faridabad who have intensified their demand for return of land, acquired by the Haryana government.

The Supreme Court relief for Shahberi villagers has rekindled hope for farmers of Greater Faridabad who have intensified their demand for return of land, acquired by the Haryana government.

The land was acquired for setting up residential sectors and infrastructure projects in Nehar Par area. “We want our land back. We too are planning to move Supreme Court,” said Shiv Dutt Vaishisht, acting president of Kisan Sangarsh Samiti.

After the Bhatta-Parsaul violence in Greater Noida, top officers in Faridabad stepped up negotiations with farmers on CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda's directions.

Compensation was hiked to R45 lakh from the original R16 lakh but some villagers did not accept the deal. “We want hike in compensation for our land acquired by Huda. Our representatives will take up the cause at the kisan panchayat at Jind on Saturday,” said Satpal Narvat, convener of the samiti.
