Farmers? congress from February 21

THE EIGHTH Indian agricultural scientists and farmers? congress will be organised jointly by Bioved Research and Communication Centre, Allahabad and Banaras Hindu University on February 21 and 22 at BHU, Varanasi.

THE EIGHTH Indian agricultural scientists and farmers’ congress will be organised jointly by Bioved Research and Communication Centre, Allahabad and Banaras Hindu University on February 21 and 22 at BHU, Varanasi.

Senior scientists of various disciplines of agriculture and farmers will discuss the development scenario as well as emerging issues in the agricultural sector.

Dr BK Dwivedi, director Bioved Research Institute and organising secretary of the congress, dwelt at length on the aims and objectives of the congress and said that the congress intended to outline effective measures and strategies for sustainable and balanced development of agriculture so that achievements of agricultural research percolated to the farming community.

Delegates from various parts of the country will discuss the problems in the agricultural sector such as soil degredation, environmental pollution, food security, non-sustainable agricultural practices, agricultural trade reforms, depletion of groundwater and problems emerging from sanitary and phytosanitary measures and Intellectual Property Right provisions of theWTO.The scientists will also define various measures to raise the profitability of agriculture as a large number of farmers intend to quit farming due to non-profitability. The focus of the congress will be on dissemination of information about the advancements made by agricultural scientists and farmers in agriculture and allied activities such as crop production, animal husbandry, fisheries,dairying, bio-technology, genetics and plant breeding, horticulture and food processing.
