FINALLY FARMERS living in rural areas of Indore can operate motor pumps and electrical appliances without the risk of their getting burnt so frequently, as now voltage fluctuation would be comparatively less wider.
Last year rural areas of Indore experienced dramatic drop in voltage from 240 volts to 180 volts, which resulted in burning of electrical appliances. From now onwards drop in voltage will not be below 210 volts. Irrigation motor pumps operate on 400 volts but earlier there was drop in voltage to 320 volts in the electricity supplied for motor pumps.
However, from now onwards this drop in voltage will be restricted to 360 volts. This phenomenon was more pronounced during Rabi season when maximum irrigation motor pumps are operated and this puts additional load on the system. However, now the situation has improved.
Talking to Hindustan Times, MP Western Region Electricity Distribution Company, Additional Superintending Engineer Trilok Chandra said that owing to drop in voltage there is increase in magnitude of current, which causes heating of electrical appliances and results in their burning. He reasoned that if drop in voltage would be less then there would be less chances of electrical appliances getting burnt.
He further said that earlier voltage swing was from 33 KV to 27 KV in the system which has now been contained significantly and has narrowed down and it now varies from 33 KV to 30 KV in rural areas of Indore. Trilok revealed that 33 transformers of 3.15 MVA were augmented and their capacity was increased to 5 MVA.
