The Jammu rioters, demanding restoration of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, have finally found a pleader for their cause in Kashmir. Former chief minister and National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah has favoured return of the land to the shrine board to resolve the crisis sweeping the Jammu region. He, however, said the shrine board should comprise of local members only.

“Handing over land to the shrine board is the best way to defuse the situation in the state. But the land allotment should be temporary and limited to two months,” Farooq told mediapersons in Srinagar on Sunday.

“No one can airlift land from Kashmir to Jammu,” he said, adding it should be given back to the shrine board for the yatra period. “We should not forget that scores of locals earn their livelihoods from the yatra,” he said.
