Faster conviction a must to ensure women's safety: Guv

"We are living in a modern world that demands for modern, faster approaches to effectively curb criminal activities," said the governor, while observing the need for imbibing ethical and moral values among students right from junior school upwards to the university in order to establish a harmonious and peaceful society.

The governor referred to his meetings with late Veeranna Aivalli in the early 1990s and remembered him as an officer of integrity.

Vohra also presided over a debating contest wherein the Veeranna Aivalli Memorial Running Trophy was won by Abhinandan Singh and Dhruvika of Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu.

Prof MPS Ishar, vice-chancellor of Jammu University, said debates contests provided students an opportunity to put forth their views on issues affecting society. Director general of police Ashok Prasad spoke on strategies for ensuring safety of women and children.
