The accident occurred when he was repairing a cooler on the balcony of MLA Lalji Verma’s flat.

A group of employees later staged an agitation, demanding ex gratia relief of Rs 5 lakh and assurance of a job in the department for the next of kin of the deceased. The agitation ended after senior officials pacified the employees.

Udai Pratap Singh (46), who was repairing the cooler, had taken the balcony’s support to prop himself up. Suddenly, he lost control and fell down, suffering head injuries. He died on the spot.

Following the accident, his co-workers gathered at the scene. They staged a protest with the body.

Arrested: Aashiana police arrested a labourer and recovered Rs 3.3 lakh from his possession on Saturday. The labourer had stolen Rs 10 lakh cash from the Swaroop Nagar, Kanpur residence of Dr Rajesh Bhadauria a few months ago.

Though Dr Rajesh had not lodged an FIR, he had informed the local police. A police team even raided Vishnu’s house, but they had failed to recover the money.

Sarojininagar circle officer Mahendra Yadav said they were searching for a gang of chain snatchers when they caught Vishnu. Vishnu confessed to the theft and police recovered cash from his house.
