The town of Mohammadi in Lakhimpur Kheri was left stunned on Sunday when a man was found sexually abusing his minor daughter for the last few months.
Already on the alert following the Delhi gangrape case, the Kheri police promptly arrested the man.
Deputy superintendent of police Mohammadi Om Veer Singh said, "The father has been abusing the girl for months, but the girl was forced to keep silent. There was no one at home but her grandmother. There was none to stop the atrocities on the poor girl."
The girl's father had married thrice. His first wife had severed relations with him long ago. The second wife was the mother of the girl. The third wife had left him. Taking her children, she had gone to stay with her parents.
"On Saturday night, the girl finally talked to a few of her neighbours, who encouraged her to approach the police. She filed a complaint at the Mohammadi kotwali, following which the man was arrested," Singh said.
