The alleged contract killer, who was burnt alive by an angry mob for killing Hyatpur village sarpanch Rakesh Yadav, was identified by his father on Sunday. Parveen Kumar (26), a resident of Muzaffarnagar in UP, was accompanied by another accomplice who managed to escape after the incident.

The police, however, will conduct a DNA test to confirm his identity before handing over the body to his family.

A police team brought Parveen's father from his hometown. "We will conduct a DNA test and if the report comes out positive, the body will be handed over," said police commissioner SS Deswal. On Saturday, a post-mortem examination was conducted, he added.

The Gurgaon police claimed to have identified more culprits and are hoping to make more arrests. The 32-year-old sarpanch allegedly had a feud with another person of the village over water and the latter hired two contract killers to eliminate him.

Earlier, the police claimed the assailants were living in a nearby village and did a recce before the murder. Efforts are also on to probe the role of assistant commissioner of police Sumer Singh, who was transferred from Gurgaon to Rohtak on Thursday night, hours after Yadav was shot.
