Although the murder of Asha Devi, 22, wife of one Ranbir Wagel of Kanwarpur in Aligarh, took place on February 20 in Faridabad, the accused, identified as Shyambir Singh alias Pappu, was arrested late on Thursday evening.

Police said they found the half-burnt body in a secluded area on the dividing line of Sector 61 and 62 on February 20. The body was kept in the mortuary of BK Hospital in Faridabad.

“Around 50 people from Kanwarpur village in Aligarh came here and identified the body as that of Asha Devi. The villagers also said that they suspected the hand of Pappu, who hails from the same village in Aligarh, behind her murder,” said Ram Kumar Hooda, SHO Sadar police station in Ballabgarh. “During the course of interrogation, he confessed to his crime,” Kumar said.

Around five months ago, the accused brought Asha to Faridabad, where he rented a house for her. Pappu used to drive a canter and had been living in Faridabad with his wife and five children in Hari Nagar. He also told the police that the deceased wanted him to live with her and leave his family. During interrogation, Pappu said that Asha even threatened to expose him.
