FDA makes 19 arrests, lodges 12 cases

Continuing its statewide drive against those who are into adding toxicity to food materials, the Food and Drug Authority filed 12 cases and arrested 19 people on Saturday. HT Correspondent reports.

Continuing its statewide drive against those who are into adding toxicity to food materials, the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) filed 12 cases and arrested 19 people on Saturday.

The FDA also seized a "large quantity" of adulterated food and adulterants.

An FDA spokesperson said in Meerut it raided one Best Bakery and seized a large quantity of chemically coloured pointed gourd ('Parwal') and green chemical colour. One person was arrested in the regard.

In Ghazipur, ten quintals of mango and 6,000 bananas were seized with two containers of ethofone, carabide and an insecticide. Three persons were arrested in this connection. In Sidharthnagar fruit wholesale market, five quintals of mango and one quintal bananas were seized with carabide used to ripen them. Four persons were arrested from the market in this regard. In Sitapur, 300 litres of adulterated mustard oil was seized.
