Union Minister of State for Surface Transport R P N Singh said on Friday the feasibility study for constructing ring roads in Lucknow and four other cities would be completed by December 31 this year.
Five cities for which the study was being done were Kanpur, Aligarh, Meerut, Varanasi and Lucknow, Singh told media persons here.
The outer ring road for Lucknow would pass through areas close to Barabanki on Faizabad road, Banthara on Kanpur road and Bakshi Ka Talab on Sitapur road, Singh said.
He announced four new expressways: Delhi-Dasna-Meerut, Dhanbad-Kolkata, Bangalore-Chennai, and Vadodara-Mumbai.
Singh countered the allegation that the Union ministry for surface transport was not releasing sufficient funds to the state. “We released Rs 990 crore to the state in 2009-10,” he said.
This included Rs 435 crore under the central road fund (CRF) and Rs 555 crore for developing and maintaining national highways.
The total amount released in 2009-10 was 21 per cent higher than in the previous fiscal, he said.
Singh said he had asked the state government’s officers to submit a plan for the next financial year by April to obviate delay in releasing funds. Highways of about 422 km had been four-laned this year, he said.
