Top seed Roger Federer continued his march towards a third Australian Open crown when he crushed experienced Swede Jonas Bjorkman 6-2 6-3 6-2 in the second round on Wednesday.

In a repeat of last year's Wimbledon semi-final, the Swiss maestro outclassed the doubles specialist, who has never won a set against the world number one in five meetings, to seal victory in one hour 35 minutes on Rod Laver Arena.

The 34-year-old Swede briefly threatened a fightback when he broke back to level at 2-2 in the third set but Federer, seeking his 10th grand slam title, reeled off the next four games.
The win could set up a potentially tricky third-round match against Russian 25th seed Mikhail Youzhny.
