Not all kids have the privilege to be a part of the various summer workshops held in this city. So when artistes join their creative forces to recreate something of this sort for the slum children, it deserves attention more than just a warm welcome.
It seemed like a perfect end to the weeklong ‘Greeshmakaleen Bal Mahotsav,’ organised by the Creativity School for slum children in association with Sahitya Kala Parishad. When the opening sequence of the final day saw kids dressed in bright hues and dancing as animals and trees of the woods, the audience knew this would be an enthralling experience. But the surprise element was the fact that all the performers were just five years old.
Aptly titled Ek Nayi Subah, the choreography was done by Odissi dancer Piyali De, who did a month-long workshop with the children.
The children enjoyed themselves thoroughly. “No, I was not nervous and had lots of fun,” said four-year-old Tipu who played a dual role as a deer and a tree.
The performance was followed by a small play based on one of the most poignant stories of Munshi Premchand, Idgaah.
