The court had, in November 2007, ordered the state to form a committee to identify posts in the government sector where the visually challenged could be employed and then fill up the posts. However, the government has not even completed identifying posts.

Irked, the court on Thursday asked the government to speed up the process.

The National Association of the Blind had moved court three years ago seeking implementation of the Persons with Disabilities Act, which reserves 3 per cent of posts in government offices for the visually challenged.

According to state records, 900 posts reserved for the disabled remain vacant.

The court has asked the state to submit a draft of a Government Resolution on filling up the posts by February 12, the date of the next hearing.
