A small decision--whether to use a flyover or cross the rail track to go to other platform--can make the difference of life and death, with possible fatal mishaps shattering many dreams under the weight of those unforgiving merciless iron wheels.
This is the theme of Flyover, a short film that has been nominated in the next month's internatonal film festival being held at Jaipur in Rajasthan and it is the makers of this 22 minute movie that has become talk of the town.
Behind this socially sensitive film is an eleven member group---all class three and four employees of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)--- that has completed this project with a missionary zeal making contributions of their own to finance the movie which they feel has an important message to convey to the people in every nook and corner of the country.
"The statistics shows that over 1000 people are killed every year in the accidents that occur while corssing railway tracks in Mumbai and Pune alone. I felt a strong urge to use the medium of film to discourage this tendency to avoid use of flyover and take the --at times fatal--- shortcut to cross over the rails," said Ganesh Kadam, who has conceptualised and directed 'Flyover' in a talk said.
Kadam who had a passion for photography since childhood, honed his skills as he underwent a 26-day workshop on film making and picked up ten of his colleagues from PMC to act in the film as all of them contributed Rs 5,000 each to raise an initial amount of Rs 51,000 to start shooting.
