Rakesh Sharma’s documentary ‘Final Solution’ depicted the changing face of right-wing politics in India based on a study of the 2002 communal violence in Gujarat.

The Censor Board had banned the ‘Final Solution’ for several months. The ban was lifted in October 2004 following a sustained campaign. In the film, Sharma found a similarity between the India of 2002-04 and Germany of 1930. It focused on the alleged State-supported violence against a particular community in Gujarat, its continuing impact, and segregation of schools. Before the start of the film, lecturer in the Department of Urdu at Allahabad University Parnay Krishna said the film was a study of the politics of hate in India.

The convocation hall was packed to capacity. The audience enjoyed the film Rashomon. It referred to Rajomon Gate and the name was later changed to Rashomon. Rajo means the main gate to the castle outer ground.

The film ‘To Half Time in Hell’ was also screened. Noted producer Sanjay Joshi introduced the film and said it had portrayed the plight of prisoners and fascist policies. A discussion on ‘Final Solution’ was held. Producer and director Jiten Nandi and Shamik Sarkar interacted with the audience.
