FINALLY, THE long-awaited tender worth Rs 194.26 crore for the City’s Narmada Water Supply Scheme were floated with the condition to finish the project within two years after allotment of work. Only big construction companies could offer bid as the tenders are floated in one-group.
Earlier, tenders were prepared in five groups but the officials were later told to make it a one-group tender so that only one company could get this work. The change in the tendering was prompted by the thinking that one big company could carry out the work at faster pace instead of five different companies.
Almost all the works are included in the tender. These include construction of 340 million litres per day (mld) of intake well and pump house at Hirani (Shahganj), 8740-meter long raw water pipeline of 1400 mm diameter, 195-mld raw water pump house, 195-mld filtration plant at Khatpura, 6160 meter long pipeline of 1300 mm diameter with 185 mld capacity, 3860 kilolitres Break Pressure Tank at Dohata Ghat, 46040 meter long pipeline from Dohata to Ahmedpur, 2920 kilolitre clear water pump house and sump tank at Ahmedpur and 7780 meter long pipeline of 1100 mm diameter till Arera Hills.
Besides, a 17500-kilolitre reservoir at Arera Hills, a control room and two power sub-stations would also be constructed. According to officials, the Union Forest and Environment Ministry has given consent for survey of the forestland for the scheme.

{{/usCountry}}About 31 hectare of forestland is required for construction work or laying pipelines under this scheme. Besides, 20.99 hectare of government land and three-hectare private land would also be required for this scheme. The idea to bring Narmada water to the State Capital from 68.64 km distance was approved in the first Cabinet meeting of the BJP Government.
However, it took two years for the Government to float tenders for this ambitious project. The Centre, the State Government and Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) would fund this Rs 240.22 crore scheme. The Union Government has already provided an amount of Rs 20 crore for the scheme. The Public Health Engineering is the implementing agency.
