FIVE POLICEMEN, including an SP and a CO posted earlier in Jhansi are in a tight spot. An FIR, under Sections 342/506 and 5 and the Anti-Corruption Act, has been lodged against them and one Ilias two days ago.
The FIR was lodged following the intervention of IG zone Suvrat Tripathi following the complaint of Sukhvinder Kaur Bhatia, a resident of Jhokanbagh, Jhansi.
According to the Bhatia, several SOG cops on December 28, 2005 picked up her husband Iqbal Singh who owns a shop under Sipri police station in Jhansi. The cops, who came in two Jeeps, did not assign any reason for taking her bus band to police station.
Next day, SOG cop Aqeel Ahmad came to her house and demanded a sum of Rs 1.50 lakh in case she wanted her husband to be released.
The cop told her that the money had to go to the SP (city) Anil Rai and CO Akhilesh Narain Singh.
The police also took away the complainant’s Indica car which was abandoned at a police station after it met with an accident.
Though her husband was released after she paid the demanded sum to the cops but he had to remain under illegal confinement for four days. At the time of releasing her husband, the policemen told her that if she informed any person about he incident, her husband would be eliminated.

{{/usCountry}}Sukhvinder said that she and her husband were terrorised to such an extent by the cops that they could not muster enough courage to make any complaint.
They waited for the time when the SP city Anil Rai and CO Akhilesh Narain Singh moved out of the district on transfer.
When the incident took place, there was no DIG or SSP posted in the district.
The issue came to light when IG Suvrat Tripathi went to Jhansi on an official visit in July this year.
Sources said the SOG cops, including JN Bharti and Shyam Sundar, were still posted in Jhansi. SP Anil Rai is posted as Additional SP 25 Battalion Rae Bareilly.
The CO Akhilesh Narain Singh is now posted in Mirzapur district.
Meanwhile, Tripathi has nominated DIG Allahabad range Akhilesh Mehrotra as the investigating officer in this case.
