Revealing the contents of the FIR, sources said that a resident of Rafiqabad area of Dasna had seen a person shouting from a train and throwing away the defaced Quran pages around 1pm on Friday.

The resident then reached the Masuri police station with several others to file a complaint around 6.30pm, where he later raised religious slogans. While the FIR was being filed, several others arrived in tractor trolleys and the crowd soon swelled to nearly 4,000 to 5,000.

Later, a person used a public address system and incited the mob to protect their religion. Another person then snatched the public address system and asked the mob to set afire to the police station, sources said.

Superintendent of police (SP) Jagdish Sharma said this was only what was filed initially. “Several investigations and inquiries are on. We are trying to identify the role of each person. Only then will we act,” he added.
