The agitated protesters, who were demanding proper power supply had pelted stones at the police stations injuring policemen after which police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the mob on Monday night.

Taking note of the incident, the police has filed an FIR against 235 persons, official sources said in Amethi.
Meanwhile, the Congress termed lathicharge as barbaric and asked the state government to immediately ensure adequate power supply.

Congress spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh alleged that Bahujan Samaj Party government was meting out step-motherly treatment to Amethi, due to which the protests took place.

He also demanded judicial inquiry into the incident from the Centre. "Instead of talking to people, who sat on a peaceful dharna, the police resorted to lathicharge, which should be condemned," he said.
