No casualty was reported in the fire which was brought under control within half-an-hour, they said.

According to the officials, passersby spotted smoke billowing out from the third floor, which houses guest rooms, of 'Ekatma Parisar' -— the state headquarters of BJP, and alerted the party officials who in turn called the fire office.

"Three fire tenders immediately rushed to the BJP office and the fire was controlled within half-an-hour," the officials said, adding that a few mattresses and furniture was gutted in the fire.

When the fire broke out, BJP state general secretary Ram Pratap was having a meeting with dissident party workers, who marched to the party office to express their resentment over ticket distribution for the upcoming local body elections to be held in Birgaon, located at the outskirts of the city.

Meanwhile, police is investigating the reasons behind the fire.
