?Fire Service Day? today

THE UTTAR Pradesh Fire Services will observe ‘Fire Service Day’ tomorrow in memory of the tragic death of 66 fire service personnel while fighting inferno broke out in a big ship — Fort Sticken at the Mumbai port on April 14 1944.

The department will observe the ‘Fire Service Week’ from April 14 to 20.
Homage will be paid to the martyrs in a gathering of top police and fire service officials at the Hazratganj fire station premises.

DGP Bua Singh will be the chief guest on the occasion. For the first time, the department was not organising the fire service exhibition. Earlier, display of state-of-the-art fire tenders and other fire fighting equipments used to be arranged for the common men.

The programme will begin at 8 a.m. with the arrival of the chief guest who will take salute of the parade. After paying homage to the martyrs, the fire service officials will visit the governor where they will offer him the pin-flag carrying the insignia. The officials will begin collection of fund for the welfare of the fire-fighting personnel from the governor and will go to the common men for the same while observing the ‘Fire Safety Week’.
