A MOB went on the rampage on Sunday morning after car-borne miscreants opened indiscriminate fire and injured nine persons, four of them seriously, at Khajani town on Saturday night.
The incident was said to be the fallout of a battle for supremacy between two groups.
Four of those who sustained serious injuries were admitted to BRD Medical College where the condition of one was reported to be critical.
Hundred of people disrupted traffic movement, looted and set ablaze two shops on Sunday morning. They also demolished the boundary wall of Khajani police station and raised slogans against policemen.
Senior police officials, including SP Rural Pankaj Kumar, rushed to the spot. The circle officer was camping at Khajani where PAC was deployed to monitor the situation. Police officials claimed the situation was under control. However, an uneasy calm prevailed in the area.
Car-borne miscreants reached Rudrapur crossing and opened indiscriminate fire on Saturday night when locals were at a teashop.
Sources said Tejmani of Rudrapur was embroiled in a dispute with Shailesh and Gama of Katchi village. The two sides were involved in a heated exchange a few days ago.

The injured have been identified as Manish Tiwari, Rajkumar, Ramjiyavan Tripathi, Monu Tripathi, Sahab Ram Tiwari, Vijay Kumar, Anoop Tiwari and Vipin Tiwari.
