"There will be more arrests in this case as we progress," said a police officer tasked with probing the connections of Kashmiri guerrillas with the attack Ayodhya.

The five men were arrested at Mendhar in Poonch district, he said, noting that Khera village in Mendhar had figured time and again in the investigations.

The arrested men were identified as Rafiq Ahmad, Lal Mohammad Din, Akbar, Naseer and Hakim.

It was from Khera village that two terrorists- Asif Iqbal and Farooq Naseem - were earlier arrested in connection with the attack. They disclosed how weapons used in the attack were transported from Mendhar to Panipat town of Harayana.

Five terrorists were gunned down by paramilitary troopers when they tried to storm the disputed Ayodhya site. Another man died when the guerrillas blew up an explosive-laden jeep near the site.

Senior Superintendent of Police SD Singh at Poonch is personally monitoring the investigation. The police are now scanning the background of the arrested guerrillas to find out about their links within the country and their contacts across the border.
