Additional District and Sessions Judge Gyanchandra Gupta held five persons, Ramji Mandal, Subodh Mandal, Visho Mandal, Hilan Mandal and Shetal Mandal guilty of killing Yodhi Mandal on August 15, 2002, when he was on his way to watch the Independence Day function.

The guilty will serve an additional jail term of another year if they fail to pay the fine imposed, the judge said.

The court, however, acquitted another accused Nepali Mandal for lack of evidence against him.

The victim's wife Makhari Devi, who was an eyewitness in the murder, had lodged an FIR against six persons implicating them in the murder case, the prosecutor added.
