Five Maoists surrender in Andhra Pradesh

The police appealed to the Naxals through media to surrender and join a normal life.

Five Maoists, including two women, surrendered to the police on Sunday.

Two of them are commanders of a local Naxal squad, District Superintendent of Police Soumya Mishra said.

Speaking to the media, Mishra said V Venkanna, one of the commanders, had two murder cases against him and carried a Rs 1 lakh award.

The other commander, D Santosh, had a Rs 2 lakh award on his head and faced a murder case and three cases related to firing, the SP said.

The women Naxals were identified as V Rama Devi, a deputy commander, and G Adilaxmi.

Mishra appealed to the Naxals through media to surrender and join the social mainstream. She said the government will help them in leading a normal life.
