A FIVE-MEMBER University Grants Commission (UGC) team arrived in the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIIT-A) on a three-day inspection on Tuesday.
The visit is a part of the UGC's inspection of deemed universities once in five years to assess infrastructure, teaching, research and faculty standards even though it is the first such visit to IIIT-A in the past seven years since its inception.
The UGC team comprising Prof S Xavier Alphonse from Chennai, head of Electronics Department at the Jamia Milia Islamia University (New Delhi) Dr DR Bhaskar, Prof B Sundar Rajan of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Prof Yogesh Singh of the Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University (Delhi) and led by UGC joint secretary Dr Renu Batra arrived here after first visiting IIIT-A's Amethi campus and inspecting the infrastructure there.
The team will have a busy time on Wednesday and Thursday albeit a brief visit to Sangam too is on its itinerary.
IIIT-A Director Dr MD Tiwari will give a presentation on concept, planning and growth of IIIT-A before the team on Wednesday followed by a report presentation of the academic activities at the deemed university by IIIT-A Dean (Academic) Dr US Tiwari.
Following this, the team would visit different labs of the Institute, including the Robotics Lab, Electronics Lab, Forensics Lab and library, server room and computer fabrication unit.

{{/usCountry}}The visitors are then scheduled to visit the MBA division, the Universal Digital Library set-up and also inspects the recent constructions as well as the hostels and residential areas of the institution.
The team members will also interact with students, faculty members and officers of the IIIT-A before preparing the progress-cum-performance report that will be submitted to the UGC.
