Five ultras of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) have surrendered at Anandanagar in North Tripura, police said on Friday.

The insurgents surrendered to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Kanchanpur, Apan Jamatiya on Thursday and deposited one 9 mm pistol, two hand grenades and many live cartridges.

A self-styled sergeant, one of the surrendered militants, told police that top insurgent leaders were living a lavish life in different towns of neighbouring Bangladesh and other countries while the ultras working in fields were facing hardships in the jungles of Tripura and Bangladesh and were looking for opportunities to flee from their hideouts.
