Authorities at an English medium school here have shut down an entire class of standard eight after five students tested positive for H1N1 virus.

The confirmed cases of Swine flu in the city now stand at 16, health officials said on Friday.

The step was taken as a precautionary measure following advice from health officials even as the infected children were admitted to civic Naidu hospital’s quarantined ward for prescribed treatment.

According to Superintendent of Naidu hospital Dr Sudhir Pachpute, the infection could have spread through a student who returned from the US under a cultural exchange programme.

The school authorities confirmed that one of the class eight division ‘Lotus´ had been shut down till July 21.

Doctors in charge of the cases, maintained that there was no cause for panic and all patients with H1N1 symptoms were responding satisfactorily to the recommended drugs.
