Indo-French meets Indian Streets. Or so the invite for the launch of Khaaja Chowk went. Intrigued? Well you see, the restaurant is all about Indian street food like kebabs, biryanis, the works. And to add zing to your tastebuds, GroverVineyards has launched Sauvignon Blanc, which, according to one of the owners Viki Nair, brother of filmmaker Mira Nair, “should go well with your platter of
kebabs”.

This one at Basant Lok is the third branch of Khaaja Chowk. The other two are at Kamla Nagar and at the Plaza Mall, Gurgaon. Sure, the menu seems to be a hit. For, Nair is planning more branches all across Delhi, and yes, even abroad.

Of course, Nair is not alone in this venture. His partners include garment exporter Rajeev Bal. No wonder, fashion designer Rohit Bal, who happens to be Rajeev’s brother, was present at the do. Among other guests were Tehelka Chief Tarun Tejpal and Sanjay Kaushik, Chairman, Paramount Resources. Also seen having a good time was Nair’s daughter Saheera, an aspiring filmmaker, and Grover Vineyards’ representative Anju Chopra.

Of course, in keeping with the theme of street food, the restaurant tries to replicate an Indian street complete with a three-wheeler autorickshaw and posters of Bollywood hits. No, there was no deejay on the console, but that doesn’t mean there was no music. The 150-odd guests grooved to Hindi film numbers. Indeed, the party was on full swing, but being the Independence Day eve, it had to wind up early.
