Flood toll in Rajasthan rises to 112

The toll in the unprecedented floods in Rajasthan on Sunday touched 112 with 19 more bodies recovered on Sunday from the worst-affected Barmer district.

Navy and RAC jawans recovered 10 bodies from the Kawas village and nine from the Maluwa village taking the total number of deaths in the district to 77.

Meanwhile, the state government sanctioned an additional Rs 100 crore on Sunday for relief work. Relief Minister Kirorilal Meena said the allocation for disaster managment was Rs 436 crore. The total amount was spent for the drought relief work during the months of April, May and June and the remaining fund was used for the flood relief work.

He said with no fund available under this head, the finance department has sanctioned an additional allocation of Rs 100 crore for the relief work in the flood-affected districts.

He said the amount was sanctioned for carrying out restoration of power, road, bridges and water distribution systems.

The minister claimed that the flood situation in the Barmer district is slowly improving and the government is leaving no stone unturned to provide relief to the affected.
