GOVERNOR BALRAM Jakhar on Sunday said floriculture was a good source of enhancing livelihood and said if a small country like Holland could sell flowers worth billions of dollars, why should a fertile State like Madhya Pradesh lag behind.
The Governor was speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the 26th Annual Rose Show of the MP Rose Society at the Rose Garden. He gave away prizes to winners in the institutional and individual category. Agriculture minister Choudhary Chandrabhan Singh was also present on the occasion.
While the Capital Project, Bhopal bagged the award for institutional championship; Indira Goyal bagged the individual championship bagging top prizes in seven categories including the King of the Show award. About 6,000 entries had been received in the show and thousands of residents visited the show on Saturday and Sunday.
Dr Jakhar said there was a need to make floriculture the symbol of economic advancement of the country. Director of Horticulture J N Kansotia and general manager of State Bank of India J S Joshi were present. Rose Society president Sushil Prakash proposed the vote of thanks while Vinay Upadhyay conducted the proceedings. The Governor also released the souvenir of the society on the occasion.
Indira Goyal – apart from the individual championship – also won the best big garden, best small garden, best scented variety and best flower arrangement awards as also the King of the Show award. The Queen of the Show Award was bagged by Capital Project, while Prince of show and Princess of Show titles were bagged by Indian Institute of Forest Management.
The municipal commissioner, Bhopal got the best yellow rose and best red rose award, the best big garden (individual) award went to Prerna Prakash while the best institutional big garden award went to Nehru Rose Garden, BHEL. Simi Iqbal Bais got the best individual small garden award while the Bhopal Municipal Corporation got the best institutional small garden award.
The governor felicitated founder of the Rose Society A R Khan, rose promoter Asma Mannan and best workers R K Namdev and Shailesh Agrawal.
