Endorsing the recommendations of National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC), which aims to achieve a growth rate of 12 per cent in manufacturing sector in the next decade, the NAC members at a meeting held here today also discussed the right to Education Bill and took note of the views of the Sub-Group of the NAC members constituted for the purpose.

It said that legislative and administrative steps from the Government would help fulfil commitments made in the National Common Minimum Programme with regard to education.

It further decided to take up the core issues in the sector with the Government and suggest appropriate measures at the Centre and state levels.

The Council reiterated its support to the Prarambhik Shiksha Kosh as an effective instrument to mobilise additional resources for the universalisation of elementary education.

"Concerted and coordinated measures can substantially increase the growth rates in poverty-effected areas and help reduce regional disparities", it said.
