With death toll increasing due to dengue in Allahabad district, the district malaria department has finally woken up to get into action. The department has prepared an extensive fogging and anti-larva programme to cover mosquito-prone old city areas.
The high malaria endemic regions in trans-Yamuna area have also been identified for fumigation and other anti-mosquito measures. The six-day anti-mosquito measures 'technically' started on October 13, after the district magistrate pulled up the malaria department officials for increasing number of dengue cases in the city.
The malaria department prepared a plan, under which it was decided to conduct fogging and take other anti-mosquito measures simultaneously in high mosquito-prone areas. The areas identified by the department were Chowk, Bahadurganj, Mohatsimganj, Sahrarabagh, Shahganj, Leader Road, Katju Road, Gadhi Sarain, Kotwali, Kalyani Devi and Moti Lal Nehru (Colvin) Hospital. The first phase of fogging was done on October 13, in these areas.
Under the plan, the fogging for areas like Rajruppur, Kalindipuram, Preetamnagar and Sulem Sarain was scheduled on Sunday. It was also decided to conduct fogging in Rasulpur, Meerapur, Daryabad, Sadiyabad and Attarsuiya on October 16. On October 17, the fogging has been scheduled for Muthiganj. On October 18, areas like Kydganj, Bai-Ka-Bagh and Rambagh will be covered. On October 19, the fogging will be done in Naini.
"We conducted fogging in Khuldabad, Akbarpur, Sultanpur Bhawa and Kareli on October 14. The plan for the fogging in rural area is also prepared," said Dr RB Singh, additional chief medical officer (Vector Borne Disease).

{{/usCountry}}Dr Singh said under the plan, the town areas and markets of Chaka, Jasra, Bara and Shankargarh were scheduled to be covered on October 14. The fogging in Hanumanganj, Saidabad and Handia was conducted on October 15. Mauaima, Soraon and Phulpur will be covered on October 16 while Manda, Koraon and Meja on October 17 and Kaundhiyara, Karchana and Ramnagar on October 18, he informed.
"Besides, fogging schedule, malaria inspectors have been deputed at each district hospital to monitor suspected dengue cases. About 30 senior field workers have been asked to monitor cases in private nursing homes and hospitals," he added.
