The Australians may not have enforced the follow-on in the Bangalore Test keeping the 2001 series in mind, but coach John Buchanan on Wednesday said the option was not ruled out in the ongoing match against India.
"That is an option we have. Our bowlers and fielders would have had an overnight rest and if we manage to take the remaining Indian first innings wickets within the follow on target we may go ahead and do so," Buchanan told a press conference after the second day's play.
However, he said any decision would be taken only after taking into account several factors .
"To put our bowlers and fielders once again straightaway on the field will be a big test. But as I said that option may or may not be utilised depending on how long it takes to capture the remaining five wickets."
At close on day two India, chasing Australia's first innings score of 398, were 53 short of avoiding the follow on after ending at 146 for five.
