Do you break out into a cold sweat at the thought of making rangoli on Diwali? Does your rangoli always end up looking like a smudgy mess compared to your neighbours? Take a deep breath, there’s an easier way out. Markets across the Capital are flooded with ready-made rangoli options and other colourful decorations to make things easier.
From stencils, net apparatus, different types of colours to printed rangoli stickers, you can use various methods to make easy and beautiful rangoli designs. “A lot of customers used to ask for stencils to make rangoli designs, so we thought of introducing them at our shop,” says Rajan Khanna, of Fancy Bangle Store in Central Market in Lajpat Nagar.
The stencils come in two varieties - made of cardboard (Rs 65) and net (Rs 40 onwards). From fancy designs to traditional ones, such as the feet of Goddess Lakshmi, and happy Diwali messages, there are plenty of stencil designs available. "The net stencils should be used carefully or else the design can get messed up very easily. Since the stencil is small and the colour would seep in slowly, one should take extra precautions while designing," says the owner at Raj Pustak Bhandaar in the market.
Also a hit this year are the ready-made printed rangoli stickers. Available in square and circle shapes for R15 and R10 respectively, these stickers can give the look of a powder rangoli design. “These stickers are selling the most,” says Rajesh Kumar, of Nandani Candles shop in Sadar Bazaar. Check out the varieties of rangoli colours - kumkum and grained. The price ranges from Rs 15 (for six colours) for kumkum and R10 for a single colour for the grained one.

CHoose your rangoli
* STENCILS: Different patterns are made on cardboard. All you have to do is keep the stencil on the floor and put colour through
the design.
* NET STENCILS: The pattern is finer and can even be of gods and goddesses. But, making it is a little trickier, as there is a lot of detailing.
* STICKERS: These are ready made printed rangolis, which ensure that there’s a look of powdery rangoli when you stick them on the floor. In short, they are no fuss rangolis.
