Days after he called for speed, skill and scale to compete with China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised on “zero-defect manufacturing” and “packaging and presentation” as methods to expand India’s business horizons in the global market.
At an interaction with the Indian Foreign Service probationers, the Prime Minister on Thursday said that the focus of the Foreign Service should be on expansion of trade and commerce, and technology transfer.
To drive home his point, Modi said Indian herbal medicines were among the best in the world, but were lagging behind Chinese products due to poor packaging.
He also said, “the huge diversity and range of Indian handicrafts has not been presented properly to the world.”
Modi’s remarks come days after the President’s speech underlined that the government is committed to build a neighbourhood which would be peaceful, stable and economically inter-linked as well.
Recently, during his India tour, the Chinese foreign minister had pointed out that China’s outward inflow of capital last year was 90 billion US$. But the total aggregate of Chinese investment in India remained just at one billion.
