The committee has been set up by the Supreme Court to monitor and ensure the compliance of its orders on forest land issue. “The committee has assured us that it will allow regularisation of all flats constructed before June 26, 2006, which have completion or occupation certificate after paying a fee,” said Prakash Padikkal, chairman, Hill Side Resident Welfare Association.

As per the directives, the afforestation fees work out to Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh per hectare on developed land. Individual flat owners may have to pay between Rs 8 and Rs 10 per sq ft to get their flats regularised. Builders whose projects are underway will have to pay afforestation charges 10 to 20 times higher than residents.
